Venant de lire cet important travail de critique des manuels scolaires, je me permets de signaler qu’il y a une coquille : les gens d’Hachette ont bien tronqué et manipulé la citation de François Georgeon, mais ils n’ont pas omis de préciser qu’il s’agissait d’un entretien.
Je m’étonne de l’emploi du conditionnel ici : "son évaluation chiffrée [de Toynbee] n’était pas 1,2 million de pertes arméniennes au total, mais plutôt 600.000, semble-t-il [suivi d’un renvoi au livre de Youssef Courbage et Philippe Fargues]".
The Treatment of Armenians in the Ottoman Empire (1916) est pourtant librement consultable sur Internet :
"The third step is to estimate what proportion of these million Armenians has perished and what proportion survived, and here again our material is scanty and generalisation unsafe, the procedure of the authorities being erratic in this respect also. (...)
We can sum up this statistical enquiry by saying that, as far as our defective information carries us, about an equal number of Armenians in Turkey seem to have escaped, to have perished, and to have survived deportation in 1915 ; and we shall not be far wrong if, in round numbers, we estimate each of these categories at 600,000."
